Which is sharper lcd or plasma

The poorer black levels of LCD or the slightly softer "analogue" look inherent with plasma technology. JJTye Active Member. Hardy Eustace said:. Click to expand I'm torn between that and the Pioneer Kuro D which apparently has outstanding blacks. I need to get down to a showroom and see for myself I know, but it's good to get others views.

Yeah, I will do. Thanks for your input, interesting! Yemeth Distinguished Member. In General, the New Samsungs with their reflective screen give great blacks, and so do the new Sonys, particularly the new X series.

BT52 Guest. Black level depends so much on ambient light. Plasmas are only better than LCD in a completely dark room with no ambient light. As ambient light increases the plasma screen will reflect more of it back in a lighter greyer colour than the LCD. Same as a CRT really. Take it to the other extreme and put a plasma and an LCD in a conservatory during the day and then tell me which has the darker blacks.

Truth is that a lot of people maybe most prefer to watch films and things in completely dark room. I know I do, and yes, plasmas do have an advantage in that respect, but that criteria never gets mentioned enough in my opinion. Heavysalad Active Member.

I couldnt tell the difference between the 2 plasmas settings the same. However what surprised me was the LCD seemed sharper, and this was watching football. And the LCD was sharper showing football, which is supposed to be more blurry, but it wasnt. Can anyone tell me why this happened, as it seems to have blown away my understanding of plasma vs LCD if mostly watching SD sources.

Firstly, SD images will look better on a smaller screen. Secondly, The larger plasma screens probably had a resolution, whereas, the 32" LCD would have been , which is much closer to a standard definition broadcast made up of lines.

In my opinion, the resolution of the screen is more important than "Plasma vs LCD" if you only intend to input SD signals. I have a 32" p screen Bravia V , my normal viewing distance is 10 feet, but still looks great at 8 feet. I wouldn't be tempted by a larger screen for only SD viewing. You'll get great SD pics and you'll also be covered if you decide to upgrade to HD sooner than expected.

It was the size of the screen. Nigel Goodwin Posts: 51, Forum Member. Truth be told, plasma TVs are old technology. Essentially, the plasma TV consists of cells and inside each cell are two glass panels. A neon-xenon gas is injected and sealed within the gap between the glass panels. When using a plasma TV, the gas generates red, green and blue light which creates an image on the TV screen. LCD screens are still popular both for household and commercial use. If you're a TV and movie enthusiast, having distinct color contrast is a must [source: Miller ].

Space and energy conservation Those who want to be energy efficient should consider the amount of power that your TV is going to use. As well, LCDs tend to be thinner and lighter than plasmas with the same size screen [source: Kindig ]. Motion handling When tech critics discuss the issue of motion handling, they're referring to how motion is displayed on the TV screen. Ideally, the motion should be natural and crisp.
